For the Adults | Social Media and Digital Wellness with Jenny Beaumont Technology is woven into nearly every aspect of our daily lives, shaping how we work, connect, learn, and rest. But how can we develop a healthier relationship with the digital tools we use every day?
This interactive session invites participants to thoughtfully explore the role technology plays in their lives and relationships. Rather than focusing on rules, restrictions, or guilt, the conversation will encourage a balanced and life-giving approach to technology use. Together, participants will consider practical ways to use technology more intentionally, strengthen personal well-being, and nurture healthier connections with others.
Through discussion, reflection, small-group conversation, and engaging activities, attendees will have the opportunity to examine their own habits, identify what matters most to them, and discover simple, achievable steps toward greater balance. The session will explore the impact of technology on social, emotional, physical, and cognitive well-being while offering practical tools for creating healthier patterns of use.
Participants will leave with fresh insights, meaningful conversation, and at least one concrete action they can take to ensure they are using technology thoughtfully rather than allowing technology to shape them unintentionally. The goal is not to add another burden, but to cultivate greater clarity, freedom, and intention in our digital lives.

For Youth | ScreenStrong ScreenStrong is an evidence-based initiative that equips teens, parents, and educators with tools to understand and manage screen use in a way that supports brain health, relationships, and real-world skills.
Teen brains are still developing, with areas like the prefrontal cortex (responsible for judgment and impulse control) maturing last. This makes teens more vulnerable to the addictive design of screens, which can disrupt sleep, emotional regulation, and social skills.
ScreenStrong focuses on protecting the brain, strengthening the child, and supporting the family through: Brain science education explaining how screens affect developing brainsPractical tools for families to set healthy boundariesSchool implementation support for phone-free days and creative playCommunity encouragement to foster a “screen-strong” lifestyle
Children's Program | ScreenStrong: The Adventures of Super Brain The Adventures of Super Brain introduces elementary students to neuroscience and healthy technology habits using age-appropriate stories and illustrations. The concepts in the book are based on current research in neuroscience, child development, psychology, education, sleep science, and healthy technology use.
Childhood is a remarkable window of opportunity. During these early years, a child’s brain is growing at an incredible pace, shaped by everyday experiences, relationships, challenges, and habits. Every conversation, bedtime story, bike ride, family meal, game of catch, music lesson, and act of kindness helps build the brain that will serve a child for the rest of life.
The purpose of The Adventures of Super Brain is not to create fear about technology. Rather, it is to help children understand that their brains are extraordinary—and worth protecting. When children know how their brains grow, they become empowered to make healthier choices. When parents and educators understand the science, they are better equipped to provide the experiences that growing brains need most.
Technology will continue to evolve, but the basic needs of children have not changed. Growing brains still need human connection, meaningful challenges, active play, loving guidance, and opportunities to discover the joy of the real world.
One of the greatest gifts we can give children is a childhood rich in curiosity, adventure, purpose, and relationships. By protecting these years and filling them with experiences that strengthen the brain, we prepare children not only for success in school, but for lives marked by wisdom, resilience, compassion, and joy.

A Republic If You Can Keep It: Reflections On An America in Crisis
Date | Sunday September 20, 2026Time | 12:15 - 1:30 pmLocation | Heaton HallSpeaker | Frye GaillardTopic | A Republic if You Can Keep It: Reflections on an America in Crisis
On September 17, 1787 in Philadelphia’s Independence Hall, delegates officially ratified the Constitution of the United States. Benjamin Franklin was present throughout the months of deliberations and negotiations. Immediately after the ratification became official, Franklin was standing outside Independence Hall when he was approached by a prominent local civic leader named Penny Willing Powel. She asked “Well, Doctor, what have we got? A republic or a monarchy?” Franklin’s famous response was: “A republic, if you can keep it.”
This year is the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and America stands at the threshold of losing its already eroded democracy to the authoritarian regime now in control of the federal government. There is literally no precedent in America’s history for what has happened since January 2021—the Constitution trammeled, federal laws violated, an extremist agenda foisted on ordinary Americans, and corruption and grift normalized. All enabled by a supine Republican-controlled Congress.
Journalist, historian, and author Frye Gaillard is returning to MPCOV to discuss his new book If You Can Keep It, co-written with author Cynthia Tucker.
Tucker and Gaillard were each young and very active in the Civil Rights movement during the 1960s. Gaillard witnessed Martin Luther King being arrested in Birmingham before being sent to jail. Later, as a student leader at Vanderbilt University, he invited Robert F. Kennedy to speak at the university—which he did, just months before he was assassinated in June 1968.
America was founded by great though flawed men who created a Constitution that enshrined slavery within it. Many of the founders were aware that this directly contradicted the spirit of the Declaration but recognized the new country would not have been formed without this compromise. Yet this new document, now the world’s oldest Constitution and its country the oldest democracy, has allowed for later generations to expand freedoms for all Americans on our way to becoming a more just society. The human progress America has fostered over the past two centuries has led the way in a world all too willing to trade away freedoms for promises of security.
Please join us for a thoughtful and enlightening discussion of our present social and political condition, and to learn of possible ways we can start to redeem America—as we face the opportunities and dangers of the fast-approaching mid-term elections. A light lunch will be available.

Worship Guide
Change is never just change. It is also loss.
Even the changes we choose require us to let go of what once was. Before we can embrace something new, we often need to grieve what has passed.
This Sunday, Rev. Dr. Tim Moore begins a new sermon series, The Grief and Power of Change, by exploring Elijah's journey from despair to hope. When everything familiar seemed to be falling apart, Elijah discovered that God was still present, not in the wind or the fire, but in the silence, calling him toward a new future.
Preachers Notes:Change is grief. Change means to let go of what once was. Even good change has some sadness to it. You must grieve change before you can embrace change. Elijah thought all was lost and even his own life was in danger. He goes to Mt. Sinai—the place where Moses received the Ten Commandments in order to recover the sacred faith that seemed to be lost. But when he gets there, he finds that God is no longer in the fire and earthquake and thunder. But he hears God in the silence. God approaches him in a new way (and tells him to quit pouting, that God is still working in the world, so get back to doing God’s new work).
